Your First Visit
You did it. You made your first acupuncture appointment. You filled out the intake forms. You blocked out the time from your busy schedule. You’re ready! But…ready for what? Here’s what you can expect from your first acupuncture (etc.) visit at Good Witch Wellness.
You’ll arrive (hopefully on time *wink*) and your practitioner will greet you at the door. You might be offered a cup of tea, a glass of water, or a trip to the loo. You’ll be guided to one of our charming and relaxing treatment rooms where you’ll sit for a chat as we discuss everything you mentioned in your intake forms. We will ask you more questions about your needs (some might be weird. lol), your challenges, your concerns. We will listen to you. We will gather details about you we begin to see who you are constitutionally (a big deal in Chinese medicine), to get ideas on how we can best support you and move you from the place you’re at to the place where you want to be.
After our chat, hopefully you’re feeling a little more relaxed about receiving an acupuncture treatment. If not, no worries. We got you. Our treatments can be collaborative and patient-guided, as we want you to feel comfortable and safe.
Next, you’ll be invited to lay down on a warm and cozy table. There will be relaxing music and some nature sounds from a sound machine. The infrared heat therapy lamp will be on your feet. Then we will feel your pulses and take a look at your tongue (pillars of Chinese medicine diagnosis). As you breathe gently in and out, listening to the calming music, we will insert the needles. Then you will take a nap for about 30-minutes, room bell button nearby in case you need us. You might even have gently waited eye pillow over your eyes. Be sure to remind us to tell you about moving with acupuncture needles (safe, btw). We will guide you. Your mind might wander and you will begin to relax and surrender into the “Qi zone.”
Once your time is up, the needles will be removed. You might feel a little funny. A little floaty, fuzzy. Chill. Qi’d Out. Or you might feel energized. Or maybe…nothing. And that’s ok! Everyone responds a little differently to acupuncture treatments, and it can vary from treatment to treatment.
From there, you’ll be given some recommendations: cadence of acupuncture visits, foods to eat/avoid, herbs or supplements to take, an email with a lot of info, a glass of water to support the healing happening in your body. We typically recommend weekly visits, especially when you’re starting out.
Then you’ll do it again next week! Only then, you’ll be just a bit different. You might not see it, but we will: in your pulse and tongue, and the sound of your voice. This is the rhythm of acupuncture and Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Welcome to Good Witch Wellness & Apothecary!
