Acupuncture & Your (Precious) Nervous System
Acupuncture needles inserted along the spine can be relaxing, reduce pain, & improve quality of life. This is one way that we treatment to nourish and regulate your nervous system.
Modern living in a pretty complicated world can be a massive zap to our nervous system. Nervous system disruption can raise our stress levels, dis-regulating our mood, disrupting sleep, digestion, and even our menstrual cycle. It can even disrupt normal transitions through perimenopause and menopause, making manageable & normal signs and symptoms of hormonal changes move into the maxed-out zone pretty quickly, frazzling our last nerve, and making our moods pretty, well, not so pretty. This is the place, when our last nerve needs a little reprieve from day-to-day stress & pressures, where regular acupuncture treatments really shine and make the most impact.

From the moment the first delicate needle is inserted, the cascade of the relaxation response begins. The parasympathetic nervous system promoting “rest & digest” has taken the lead, encouraging regulation of the autonomic nervous system. Once the second needle is inserted, neurotransmitters like endorphins are already bringing calm and balance, and Qi flows more efficiently, guiding Blood and vital Ying fluids, all aiming to encourage deep healing. Digestion is online and beginning to work it’s magic of transforming our food into fuel for all of our vital systems of life.

Regular acupuncture treatments have shown to improve basic systems that support regular and deeper sleep, neurotransmitters begin to work more efficiently to keep stress at bay and reduce pain, and brain function has been shown to improve in parts of the brain that are most impacted by stress and emotional regulation. Of course, we use acupuncture in our clinic to help patients navigate many other challenges, but from a not-so-basic-basic-place, sleep, emotional regulation & improved digestion are pretty awesome, improved-quality-of-life places to build on. Especially since sleep and stress reduction are essentials for challenges like balancing hormones for fertility and a healthy menstrual cycle, having a regular bowel movement, or for managing physical pain.
